FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
about Denver Career Counseling
How long does counseling take? How many sessions will I need?
It's difficult for me to answer this question because this is such an individualized process, but many people find that they gain sufficient clarity within a few sessions to move forward on their own. Other people want me to serve as a coach, checking in with me regularly and holding them accountable for following through with the action steps we establish during the sessions. It depends on many factors and on your personal goals for counseling. We can discuss your situation and create a plan for the sessions when we talk on the phone or in our first session.
What is your availability? What days do you see clients?
I am in the office most weekdays. I offer appointments in the late morning through early evening, depending on the day. Please give me a call at 720-339-4744 or send me an e-mail to inquire about my availability.
Where is your office?
My office is near I-25 and Colorado Blvd., at 4340 E. Kentucky Avenue in Glendale. You can click on the address below to see a larger map and get directions:
I live far away from your office – can we still work together?
Yes! I've worked with clients as far away as Japan via Skype and telephone, and it works well. If you do live in the Denver area, it is ideal if you can come into the office, as this is the most personable way for us to work together. But I recognize that it's not always feasible to drive to my office, and I'm all for saving gas! If you're wondering about the drive, I have had many clients come from the southern suburbs, including Highlands Ranch and Centennial, and tell me that the drive's not as bad as they'd expected. I've also worked with people who have driven down from Boulder, Fort Collins, Evergreen, and the Eastern Plains.
What are your rates?
You can see my rates for individual sessions and packages at my "Rates and Packages" page.
What does the process look like?
The process is very individualized. You can learn more about it at my "The Process" page.
Do you specialize in helping people in my field?
As a career counselor, I'm trained to help you figure out the fields that are potentially the best fit for you and to help you develop a strategy for moving forward, regardless of what area you would like to work in. I know a good deal about certain fields and have more general knowledge about others, but I can provide the structure and guidance within which you can find out the important things you need to know about the career areas that interest you. I have worked with people in many different occupational areas, ranging from accountants and attorneys to musicians and graphic designers.
Can I hire you to work with someone I know who is struggling in their career? Can I purchase some sessions with you as a gift?
Yes, that's a very nice gift to give someone you care about. It's important, though, that they be on board with the process and committed to actively engaging in it. Before finalizing the first appointment, I would want to have a brief phone conversation with them to make sure they feel comfortable coming in to see me and to answer any questions they may have.
Can you work with my child – he/she is a teenager or in their early 20s?
Yes, I enjoy working with people in this age group, provided he or she is on board with the process and committed to actively engaging in it (and at least 16). Before finalizing the first appointment, I would want to have a brief phone conversation with them to make sure they feel comfortable coming in to see me and to answer any questions they may have. Please know that once I start working with your child, I will treat him or her as my client and will maintain confidentiality for our sessions, so I will not be able to discuss anything about their sessions with you (even if you are paying.)
Do you provide guidance in choosing and applying to graduate schools?
I can help you decide whether to go back to school and what types of programs and schools to apply to. I can also help you with your application if that's something you feel you need assistance with. I have been in graduate school more than once, so I have direct personal experience in this area.
Do you provide me with contact information of hiring managers or with names of people to network with?
I can help you devise a strategy for making contacts in your field and help hold you accountable for following through with your plans (if you want help in that area). I do not provide you with specific contact information or keep a database of hiring managers.
